Andrew Varley electronic organist for
concerts and Ballroom & Latin & sequence dances
Andrew Varley was born and lives in
Southsea, Hampshire with his wife Sue and their two daughters. He began to take a keen
interest in playing the electronic organ at the age of thirteen. In those early years he
received great help from his father and was given great encouragement by the late well
known theatre organist, Eric Lord. However he is mainly self-taught. At the age of
sixteen, Andrew began entertaining holiday makers in two Southsea hotels and later spent a
number of years playing keyboard with a trio entertaining at holiday camps and clubs in
the south of England. Following a period spent with a retail music business, Andrew
decided to make a full time profession of playing for dancing, private functions and
concerts for organ societies and clubs, ranging from the Channel Islands to the north of
England and more recently in Germany. Andrew has appeared at numerous Organ Festivals. In
his early years, recordings of his music were broadcast by the BBC in their 'Organ
Showcase' programme. More recently, listeners to The Organist Entertains' on BBC Radio 2
will have heard extracts from one of his recordings. Andrew's sixth commercial recording
'Dance With Me', is played on his Wersi Wega organ and it is often said that his
performances are truly "live" when playing this instrument as no backing discs
or recordings are ever used.
